Tips for Taking Care of Your Body This Summer

Summer is upon us, and when the sun is out and everyone is parading around in shorts and bikinis, we tend to feel the most vulnerable about our bodies. Summer can be an intimidating time of year for a lot of us, it seems impossible to escape the images everywhere of beach bodies. Taking care of your body during the summer (and all year round) is important, not because of how you look in a swimsuit, but because of your health and how you feel. If you want to feel happy, healthy, and confident, here are some top tips for caring for your body this summer.

Stay Hydrated

Hydration is critical all year round, but particularly when the weather is hot and sunny. At the very least, make sure you’re sticking to drinking eight glasses of water a day. If you’re outside being active or working out during the summer months, then your water intake should reflect that. If you struggle to drink enough water during the day, try adding frozen berries, mint leaves, or lime slices to spice things up a bit. I can also help your hydration to choose snacks containing high water content, such as watermelons, cantaloupes, tomatoes, and cucumbers.

Get Plenty of Rest

Normally, you should sleep for seven to nine hours per night all year round, and the summer is no exception. Prioritizing sleep at this time of year is important, since many people’s schedules change with packed social lives, traveling, and more to do during the summer months. To make sleeping more comfortable, keep the room cool and pull the shades.

Stay Active

Staying active can be tricky for some people during the summer since it’s so hot. But it’s important to continue exercising in the summer months. If you live somewhere so hot and humid that exercising is a challenge, try working out before the sun rises or later on in the evening when it’s a bit cooler. What’s more, working out during the summer can help you to feel more confident about your body. A Seattle gym is a great place to take part in some summer fitness classes.

Wear Plenty of SPF

Wearing sunscreen is absolutely critical. You should wear 30 SPF or higher at all times throughout the summer to protect your skin. UV radiation can be very damaging to your body, and it can also speed up the aging process drastically. Don’t forget to leave the house without your sunscreen on.

Enjoy The Outdoors

Summertime offers more opportunities to soak up sunlight. You can enjoy the beautiful weather and stay active at the same time. Try going for a walk, a swim, or enjoying the beach, lakes, or mountains, depending on where you live. Outdoor activities such as surfing, swimming, and hiking are great ways to both enjoy the outdoors and some physical activity. If it’s far too hot to spend time outside, get your physical activity in by joining a Seattle gym.

Don’t Compare Yourself To Others

Summer is about enjoying yourself, and constantly comparing yourself to others can take a lot of the fun out of summertime. It’s all too easy to feel inadequate with everyone parading around their beach bodies, especially if you spend a lot of time on social media. Stop comparing yourself to others and focus on having fun and staying healthy for yourself. Often, comparisons stop us from engaging in activities that we otherwise enjoy. For example, far too many people quit going to the gym because they find themselves constantly comparing how they look to other people. To remedy this, you could try joining a gym in Seattle that’s inclusive and makes you feel confident.

Be Kind To Yourself

Just like we mentioned previously, comparing yourself to others can make you be a bit harsh on yourself. Be kind to yourself this summer, do things you enjoy, and make sure you put an end to any negative self-talk or bad thoughts about yourself. Treat your body and mind with kindness by prioritizing your health. Regularly visiting a gym in Seattle is a great way to be kind to yourself by looking after both your mental and physical fitness.

Wear What Makes You Feel Confident

Ignore what’s trendy or fashionable and wear what makes you feel good, comfortable, and confident. It’s all about how you feel, not about wearing the trendiest bikini by the pool. Make your body feel incredible, powerful, and on top of the world by wearing things that make you feel good. It doesn’t matter what other people think!

Take The Time to Relax

Summertime can be busy for a lot of us, so it’s important that you take the time to relax and rejuvenate. Hot weather can also make you feel tired and lethargic, so be sensitive to your body’s needs and don’t overdo it. The pressure to look “perfect” in the summer can also cause a lot of stress, so make time to relax. Put away the social media and engage in relaxing activities such as reading, writing, drawing, or even just taking a well-earned nap!

The summer months should be an enjoyable time for everyone. But unfortunately, many of us spend the summertime worrying about how we look, feeling inadequate, and not taking proper care of ourselves. Remember, it doesn’t matter what other people think or look like, what matters is how you feel and whether you’re happy in your own skin. Stop comparing yourself and engage in activities you enjoy and that also benefit you and your health.
