Your perspective can change how you respond to life. And your approach to your physical health. Your mind, for the most part, is in charge of whether or not you are healthy, working out and staying fit. It’s your choice (again, for the most part) whether or not you are choosing to do the healthy things over the unhealthy things. It is up to you to choose how you want to live your life, how you want to look and how you want to feel.
The older I get the more life experiences I have. I’m lucky for that. But those life experiences aren’t always amazing. Life is a series of ups and downs. Wins, losses, pain, etc.
Anyone reading this knows this already. The harder things get the more we want to shut down.
It’s the very thing you don’t want to do, you need to do. I’ve realized there is no magic formula, no supplement, no specific protocol, no retreat, that will change the fact that what you need to do is solely in you. It’s your mind. It’s your will.
Each time we do that thing we dread doing we build our willpower. We build our resilience. The more you dread it. But do it anyways. The more you change those pathways in your brain.
Your brain is the strongest thing you have. So next time you want to reach for that bag of cookies, that you know won’t just be one cookie, remember you are in control. Each time you get out of your warm bed and get to the gym you are building willpower. Every time you chose to not doom scroll but rather get uncomfortable with what you need to be doing or feeling, you build willpower.
I am not saying take away all joy in your life.
But make the choice. Every day. Make the choice to do the hard thing for your mental and physical health. Continue to build your resilience and the hard things become less hard. And the really hard things are more manageable.
We are human, you will make mistakes, have downfalls, eat the entire box of cereal, skip the days you should be working out, mindlessly numb out on social media. But the beauty of it, is each moment you have an opportunity to do better.
